About Us

A Brief History of Our Club

On 2 May 1991 seven enthusiastic people met in the home of a local resident to discuss forming a coin club in the Redcliffe area for swapping and trading. At the second meeting on 6 June 1991 it was decided to form such a club and the positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer were confirmed.

At the third meeting on 11 July 1991 a simple constitution was adopted, committee members were elected and the name The Redcliffe Coin Club was adopted with a membership of 16.

It was February 1992 when the club moved its meeting place to the Redcliffe Education Centre and in March 1992 the club’s first newsletter appeared. In 1994 the club amalgamated with the Koala Phonecard Club and changed its name to the Redcliffe Coin and Phonecard Club Inc.

In 1996 nineteen members and nine visitors celebrated the start of the Club’s sixth year. To celebrate this milestone the club released a five year commemorative copper medal.

1999 saw the Bicentenary of the naming of Redcliffe by Matthew Flinders (1799-1999) and to celebrate we had silver and copper medals made.

May 2000 the club held its 100th meeting and on 8 December, 2000 members of the Kangaroo Collectables Club formally joined The Redcliffe Coin and Phonecard Club Inc.

In February 2001 the club moved to the Redcliffe Community Centre, Lamington Drive, Redcliffe, with Phonecard members meeting at 6.30pm and Coin Club members meeting at 7.30pm.

Queensland's Sesquicentenary (1859-2009)and 2 more medals were prepared for us by The Canning Mint-Silver and Copper.

Then in January 2010 the club meetings moved to the Woody Point State Special School, 85 Georgina Street, Woody Point. We met on the first Tuesday of each month (except January) and commenced our meeting at 7.30pm.

To celebrate the club’s tenth and fifteenth anniversaries copper commemorative medals produced and released.

The club's Twenty Years in 2011 allowed us to have Silver, Copper and Aluminium medals created and released.

During 2013 we held our 250th meeting and we produced a silver and brass medals to celebrate.  A series of 10 aluminium medals commemorating the ANZACS and the Light Horse were also struck in 2014/2015.  You can view all of our medals in the Club’s Photo Gallery.

August 2015 our meetings moved to the Volunteer Hub (Old Redcliffe Fire Station) Cnr, Oxley Avenue and Mary Street, Redcliffe.

In May 2016 we celebrated 25 Years as a numismatic club and have issued medals for that celebration.

On the 3rd July, 2018 we held our 300th meeting and to commemorate a Gold Coloured zinc Ally medal was struck. This medal also commemorated the 230th Anniversary of the First Fleet.

Our Meetings

September 2016 after our room hire fees were increased by 100% we moved our meetings to more modern facilities located at:
Level 2, Moreton Bay Integrated Care Centre (MBICC) 106 Anzac Avenue, Redcliffe. We still meet on the first Tuesday of each month (except in January), and commence our meetings at 7.30pm.  Earlier arrival allows members to discuss their items with other members.

To keep proceedings interesting we offer:

  • News updates;
  • Notifications of upcoming collecting events;
  • “Show & Tell” opportunities;
  • A general knowledge quiz - time permitting; and
  • An ample supper with time to socialise

The main monthly event varies with Tender Sales, Market Nights (viz. buy, swap and sell), and an occasional guest speaker.

Our Philosophy

We encourage members to participate in Club activities, the Brisbane ANDA Money Expo and our monthly Newsletter. We respect members who actively make a positive contribution to the way our Club is managed and promoted.
